about Jay Sellers

Jay went to Appalachian State University in Boone, NC. where he strayed a bit in his musical tastes. It  ran from Led Zepplin, Jimmy Buffet, The Allman Brothers, Lynyrd Skynyrd, James Taylor, The Eagles, to a guy named Willie….and a friend of his named Waylon.  But to this day as a songwriter, Jay insists that one of his greatest influences was Jim Croce.

Jay met his wife Lonette while living in Los Angeles. In fact, they first saw each other in a honky tonk called InCahoots. They are both self-employed which allows Jay to spend time honing his songwriting skills.  Although that elusive first cut has yet to appear, Jay keeps writing about real life, love, and things that piss him off.  He’s conservative,  not politically correct, and he still believes in tradition.

So come on in, have a seat, and enjoy the music of Jay  Sellers  Don’t worry, the dogs don't bite.

Jay Sellers, his wife Lonette, and their dogs Riley and  Bailey, currently live in Brentwood, TN, just south of Nashville. Jay hails from Lumberton, North Carolina, a small town just north of the North Carolina - South Carolina line.  His parents were both small town business folks that instilled the typical small town values of character, hard work and integrity in Jay at an early age.  Much of that is reflected in his music.  In fact, one of his earliest memories was sitting in his room (hey, he wasn’t the perfect child, he spent a lot of time in his room due to circumstances that he SHOULD have controlled) playing old 45’s on a small record player.

Most of those old 45’s came from radio station WAGR where his mom had her own show (long before Oprah and Dr. Phil) . She spent a good part of that time talking of Jay and his neighborhood exploits. Jay got his first exposure to country music there.  He spent hours listening to the likes of Patsy Cline, Ray Price, Jim Reeves, Ray Charles and a guy named Elvis.  He also spent every Sunday (whether he liked it or not) in the Methodist Church where he sang in the choir.  One of the first albums he  received as a gift was a Hank Williams album. And a song titled “Your Cheatin’ Heart.  It stuck with him. .
